Fine Wine Awards Terms and Conditions

Here are the Terms & Conditions / Rules & Regulations for the Fine Wine Awards.

Entries

  • Online submissions will be accepted from 16 February 2024 to 1 April 2024.

  • Wine samples can be delivered Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm to the following address:

    Unit 1 Southern Cross Village, Capricorn Boulevard South, Capricorn Business Park, Muizenberg, 7945 (Same premises as Wine-of-the-Month Club https://goo.gl/maps/2o9o68mBVWXVoda78)

  • Wine sample deliveries will be scheduled from 07 March to 12 April 2024. Please have a look at your confirmation email for the date you need to deliver.

  • Judging will take place from 17 April to 10 May 2024.

  • Award winners will be announced on the 13th June 2024.

Entry Costs

  • R 99 (excluding VAT) per entry.

Entry Procedure

  • Please include one copy of the entry form per sample, which is emailed to you after you have completed your online entry. Please place the entry form as well as proof of payment inside the box.

  • Each entry should consist of four bottles of 750ml, with seal codes matching the wine certification.

  • Please submit each entry separately boxed. The wine sample bottles must be clearly labelled.

  • Please label the outside of the box, with the producer’s name, and name of the wines inside the box.

  • The analysis information completed on the entry form, must correspond with the information on the certificate, e.g. the alcohol percentage on the bottle, is the same as the certification.  

  • Should a producer plan to bottle and market a particular product under more than one name or label, they should be entered individually as separate entries.

  • Wines entered need not be market-ready.

  • Entrants declare that the wine that has been entered and sent as a sample has been made according to the regulations of wine production in South Africa and that no flavourings have been used during its production.

  • Tank samples are not accepted.

  • Award stickers may only be displayed on wines awarded a medal or trophy on that specific brand name or label.

Payments

  • After completing the online entry form you will receive an invoice for payment.  

  • Payment for all submissions is due immediately. Please send proof of payment to meagan@finewineawards.co.za.

  • No refunds will be processed for wines withdrawn from the awards.

Judging Process

  • All wines will be blind tasted by an independent panel of judges, as selected by the Convener of Judges, Malu Lambert.

  • Wines will be judged in accordance with the cultivar to which they belong and the category in which they have been entered.

  • The international 100-point system will be used.

  • Medals/Stickers will be awarded as follows:

    • Trophy Award: Top-scoring wine in class

    • Gold: 95+ points

    • Silver: 90 to 94.99 points

    • Bronze: 85 to 89.99 points

  • Wines winning awards may be submitted to the Wine & Spirit Board, and /or a private laboratory to confirm that the wine submitted wine is the same as the certified wine.

  • Top scoring wines chosen by the panel and at the discretion of Malu Labert will qualify to be re-tasted for the trophy winners.

  • The judges selection of award winning wines is final.

Award Stickers

  • The official Fine Wine Awards self-adhesive award stickers can be ordered online and collected from Unit 1 Southern Cross Village, Capricorn Boulevard South, Capricorn Business Park, Muizenberg, 7945.  An email with the link to order the stickers online will be emailed to the qualifying winners.

  • Please indicate on the order form, should you wish the stickers to be couriered to you (courier cost for your own account).

  • Deadline for sticker orders: To be confirmed.

  • Bottle sticker orders can only be accepted in multiples of 1000.

  • Once collected or mailed, no stickers will be returned for a refund and the named estate/producer will be held responsible for payment of the stickers.

  • Unless arranged, all collections must be accompanied by proof of payment or e-mailed before collection.

  • Stickers may only be applied to the wine that has won the Fine Wine Award.

Sticker Cost

  • R 0.50 (excluding VAT) per sticker.

  • An invoice for stickers will be sent once the order is received. Please send proof of payment for sticker order to meagan@finewineawards.co.za.

Reproduction Guidelines

  • Any reproduction or representation, either total or partial, of the Fine Wine Awards medals, logo, name, or any part whatsoever of the website is strictly forbidden without prior written agreement from the organisers of the awards.  

  • Digital or printed reproduction of medals may not be made without authorisation, and the graphic representation may not be modified or adapted in any way whatsoever.

Results

  • The judges and organisers decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into by entering this competition. All contestants and producers must adhere to this criteria. Results will not be sent to entrants with outstanding invoices.

  • All Trophy winning producers are to make available 6 x 6 cases of the trophy winning wine free of charge to be used for the Fine Wine Awards Announcement Event.

Unused and Unopened Entries

  • The organisers will donate or sell and donate the proceeds of any unopened entries to charity.

By completing the online entry application, you hereby accept the terms and conditions of the Fine Wine Awards and acknowledge that you are responsible for and have authority to proceed with the entry.
